San Salvo is a town of 20,000 inhabitants in the region of Abruzzo that overlooks the Adriatic coast to the extreme edge of the Trabocchi Coast in the Province of Chieti. It has become an important tourist center thanks to the quality of services and environmental protection, and has been awarded with the European Blue Flag for its golden beaches: 2500 meters of clean water and fine sand. The dunes of this stretch of coast are protected to preserve their coastal natural vegetation: it is the Mediterranean Botanical Garden, the first and largest botanical garden in Abruzzo and a wide nature park on the sea.

San Salvo is also rich in history and culture: the old town centre is characterized by the beautiful buildings of Piazza San Vitale, where you can still admire some mosaic floors of Roman origin. Noteworthy is also the Archaeological Park of Quadrilatero, a sort of outdoor museum, where it is possible to go through all the city development stages. Recently, some excavations carried out far from the centre have unearthed the remains of the old abbey of the Saints Vito and Salvo, arousing the attention of American and European archaeologists.

On the southern side of the Marina, the new Tourist Harbour has been built and, with over three hundred berths, further helps to improve the tourist offer.

The city is also famous for its huge peach orchards: hundreds of hectares of peach trees of many species and quality have made San Salvo the leader of the national committee ''City of peaches".

From San Salvo, you can visit the many surrounding villages rich in tradition, getting to the fascinating Tremiti Islands and spend one day of fun at the water park "Aqualand del Vasto”. Not far from here are the Gran Sasso, Maiella, Umbra Forest, Juvanum archaeological sites and the historical and cultural beauties of Vasto and Lanciano.
